Welcome to the Wellington Heifer...
The Wellington Heifer is a cosy family run inn set in
beautiful countryside, and offering comfortable and friendly
accommodation, an excellent selection of home cooked food,
fine wine and ales.
The Wellington Heifer is owned and run by Stuart Mathers and
his father Alex Mathers, assisted by mum Denise and brother
James – truly a family concern.
The Wellington heifer is located on the A684 at the
village of Ainderby Steeple, and is an ideal location from
which to explore the surrounding region, including the
beautiful Yorkshire Dales National Park, the equally
stunning North York Moors National Park, the Vale of York, Durham and Northumberland.
The location which is in easy reach of both the A19 and the
A1, means it is ideal for business travels to the area, with Teesside, North Yorkshire, County Durham and
York all being easily accessible.
The original part of the pub was built in 1834, when it was called the White Steer. A visit from Lord Welesey in 1890 inspired the name change to The Wellington Heifer in honour of the Iron Duke and his love of Argentinean Beef.
